Kindly is a UI/UX mobile app concept developed to explore how digital design can make gift-giving feel more thoughtful, personal and manageable for people with busy lifestyles. The project centres around the experience of a university student balancing study, part-time work and everyday commitments, where finding the time to choose a meaningful gift can become stressful or overwhelming. Rather than treating gift-giving as simply a task of finding and purchasing a product, Kindly considers the emotional and personal aspects of giving, exploring how a digital experience can support users in making choices that feel more intentional and connected to the people they care about.

The concept was developed around the idea of bringing the different stages of the gift-giving process together within one cohesive platform. Personalised gift suggestions help users discover ideas based on the recipient’s interests and personality, while a last-minute mode provides quick suggestions for situations where time is limited without compromising the thought behind the gift. Note-writing assistance supports users who may struggle to find the right words, while reminders help them stay aware of upcoming birthdays, celebrations and important occasions. Additional features such as gift categories and saved ideas allow users to organise their choices and return to possibilities they may want to consider later.

Throughout the design process, the focus was on creating an experience that felt supportive rather than overwhelming. A warm and approachable visual identity was developed to communicate the caring and personal nature of gift-giving, while clear navigation, simple interactions and an organised content structure were used to make the interface easy to understand and move through. The design considers not only what the user needs to accomplish, but also how they should feel while using the app — reducing pressure, providing reassurance and encouraging a more thoughtful approach to choosing gifts.

The final outcome is a friendly and considered mobile experience that aims to shift gift-giving away from feeling rushed, generic or stressful. Kindly provides users with practical tools and guidance while still leaving room for personal choice and emotional connection. Ultimately, the project demonstrates how UI/UX design can be used to address an everyday challenge through a combination of functional problem-solving, thoughtful visual communication and user-centred design, helping people feel more organised, confident and intentional when showing appreciation for the people in their lives.
